Although Dr. Weiss’ background was in Classical Languages and Philosophy, he became interested in painting after receiving a paint set from his family as a Christmas gift. He soon became fascinated with art and art history and then took several art courses at the Silvermine Arts Center.
Under the skillful guidance of Ms. Phyllis Rutigliano, he turned to Watercolor as his main medium and, after retiring from teaching, has devoted most of his time to learning and mastering its beautiful qualities and techniques.
Growing up in the Midwest, he was always intrigued by the plains and farms, so many of his landscapes deal with this subject. And since many of his vacations were to ocean beaches, he soon found a deep interest in seascapes as well. Through his paintings, he tries to keep alive the sense of wonder in the world.
